The Nordic Way
Professor Arne Astrup, Professor Jennie Brand-Miller, and Danish TV health guru/dietitian Christian Bitz know the Nordic diet is a great diet for getting healthy and staying lean, even into middle age and beyond. As leaders in obesity research, glycemic science, and healthy living, respectively, they’ve learned that eating a specific ratio of proteins, whole grains, and vegetables and incorporating traditional Nordic ingredients such as rye bread, skyr yogurt, and rapeseed (canola) oil into one’s diet are effective paths to overall health and stable weight. The book features peer-reviewed studies that support the diet and more than 60 recipes. In future issues, we’ll share recipes with GI News readers. To find out more about the book, head over to the publisher’s website.
Our Mary (Crown Princess Mary to be precise) is onto something. When she followed her prince to Copenhagen, she lost weight easily, all the while enjoying the traditional diet of the Danes. Move over Mediterranean diets – it’s time to let the Scandinavian diets shine. |

The Ultimate Guide to Sugars and Sweeteners
“In a world awash with nutritional dogma that’s loosely attached (if at all) to scientific facts, The Ultimate Guide to Sugars and Sweeteners provides sensible and truthful perspective. If you’re struggling to make sense of sugars, sweeteners, and health, this book belongs at the top of your reading list.” —Ted Kyle, RPh, MBA, Founder and Principal ConscienHealth, Chair of the Obesity Action Coalition
Perfect for foodies, bakers, carb counters, parents, chefs, and clinicians, this delightfully readable book features more than 180 alphabetical entries on natural and artificial sweeteners, including the usual suspects (table sugar, honey), the controversial (aspartame, high-fructose corn syrup), the hyped (coconut sugar, monk fruit sweetener), and the unfamiliar (Chinese rock sugar, isomaltulose). You’ll also find myth-busting Q&As, intriguing trivia, side-by-side comparisons of how sweeteners perform in classic baked goods, and info on food-additive regulations, dental health, the glycemic index, and more. |
